The Festival

Photofestival is the most important and abounding Milanese event dedicated to photography and one of the most relevant cultural events on the Italian scene.

In 17 editions Photofestival has given life to 1800 exhibitions by 1760 authors, both Italian and international, and has seen the involvement of 742 different exhibition spaces.

Among the Italian photography festivals, Photofestival is the one with the greatest diffusion throughout the territory, covering the entire Metropolitan City of Milan and extending into a growing number of other provinces such as Bergamo, Brescia, Monza e Brianza, Lecco, Varese.

A month and a half of exhibitions and events – almost all with free admission – which involve the most different exhibition spaces among art galleries, museums, libraries, show-rooms, historical buildings, institutional and private spaces.

The successful and consolidated formula provides for the production of new ideas along with the spread of the existing offering: on the one hand Photofestival acquires in its own circuit the exhibitions that galleries and cultural operators organize independently, on the other hand it promotes and produces signature initiatives in its own right.

Photofestival features not only renowned photographers but also many emergent talents, thus giving opportunities to new authors.

The exhibition program is complement by a significant calendar of collateral events including photo workshops, portfolio readings, talks, presentations.

Another aspect of great importance and focus is the rich Italian/English illustrated catalog, that is distributed free of charge in all the exhibition spaces and in the most relevant spots in the city, and that constitutes a tool for the promulgation of photographic culture.

Photofestival is promoted and organized by AIF – Associazione Italiana Foto & Digital Imaging in collaboration with Impresa Cultura Confcommercio Milano and with PhotoSHOWall®, it takes place under the Patronage of the Municipality of Milan, the Lombardy Region and the Metropolitan City of Milan and it can count on the support of the individual companies associated with AIF, as well as on the support of sponsors and advertisers.
