Luigi Ghirri has steadfastly nourished his photography poetics through a dialogue with art, literature, landscape and architecture, music and philosophy, on a quest for “the lost original” and a “necessary image”. Shining through the photos on display is an inner dimension where our gaze finds the unexpected space of somewhere real. Open to Infinity, overflowing with questions, making each face expressive and each thing and memory a presence. In Ghirri’s new, unifying vision, historic monuments and geographical places, transformed by tourism and stereotypes into bleak clichés and fragments belonging to no history or geography, become dots to be joined in the hope of mapping out a possible itinerary.
