One glance at the photographs of Keef Charles and one takes a leap back in time, not the historical time of the past, but the time of the present that evokes the past. The photographer participates in a mise-en-scene, exalting the folly of his fellow countrymen who like to disguise themselves and interpret moments of their own history. The shots depict situations that look to the past but conceptually open up to contemporary reflections. Aware that we are watching the staging of a past reality, brought back to life in the gestures and expressions of the protagonists, we witness a performance that leaves us both amused and nostalgic.
