America is not only a geographical place but also, and perhaps above all, a dimension of the imagination with which we measure ourselves. Photography thus becomes the instrument to capture the most intimate aspects of the United States: the spectacularity of the natural landscapes and the strong characterisation of the urban ones, that sense of theatricality we so often come across and the taste for collective rituals, the still visible traces of the Frontier and the music that always plays in the background. By creating this collective, the 3M Foundation offers food for thought on the many aspects that connect us deeply to American reality and culture.
