Milano Photofestival: the 2024 edition of the photography festival will not take place. The important event dedicated to art photography promoted by AIF – Italian Photo & Digital Imaging Association will return in 2025 with a renewed formula.
Milan, 1 March 2024 – Photofestival 2024, the Milanese event dedicated to art photography promoted by AIF – Italian Photo & Digital Imaging Association, will not take place.
Despite having concluded the eighteenth edition of the event with a notable response from the public and the general satisfaction of sector operators – 142 exhibitions invaded 100 exhibition venues in the metropolitan area of Milan and some Lombardy provinces from 15 September to 31 October 2023 – The Association’s Board of Directors has decided to dedicate the necessary time to further develop the event.
The objective is to combine the exhibition proposals – which will continue to constitute the heart of the cultural offering of the festival – with a more substantial program of initiatives dedicated to in-depth analysis of technological tools, training activities, meetings, to attract interest and the curiosity of enthusiasts and the wider public.
Born in the early 2000s as a biennial photography exhibition as a corollary to Photoshow, the reference trade fair in Italy dedicated to the world of Imaging, since 2011 Photofestival has taken on an annual frequency which has led it to establish itself as the most important Milanese event dedicated to photography author and one of the most relevant cultural events on the Italian scene.
In 18 editions, Photofestival staged 1,942 photographic exhibitions by 1,890 Italian and foreign authors, involving 770 different public and private exhibition spaces including art galleries, museums, libraries, historic buildings and shops, not only in the center but also in the areas suburbs of the city.
The Organizing Committee will keep alive the relationship with galleries, operators, partners and institutions to continue pursuing the project of spreading photographic culture and developing knowledge of photography in all its forms.
The spotlight on photography and the photographic medium will be turned back on in autumn 2025 with the nineteenth edition of Photofestival.
