Thanks to its contradictions, India has always radiated an irresistible visual allure. Arnone merely went looking for new existences and faces, but life presented itself before his eyes in all its terrible complexity: from the male-female harmony of Shaktism to violence against women by way of Devadasi, or the prostitution of little girls in the name of religion. India undoubtedly appears as an enigma in Arnone’s photographs, but also as the opportunity for a constant striving towards the truth.
