Photographing parts of a theatre performance is at once fascinating and complicated, and the task only gets harder when the subject is one of the most versatile artists of the last century. Lindsay Kemp was a mime, actor and dancer, as well as the creator of refined and highly evocative atmospheres. Graziano Villa portrayed him during some of his performances with their wealth of colours, exceedingly slow and profoundly expressive movements, Baroque layers and spare essentialities, between elegance, tragic simplicity and celebrations of life. A deep sense of explosive and hard-fought grandeur somewhere between pain, emotion and joy.
